Version 0.1 (draft) / October 27, 2026
Matchmaking agreement
Draft for legal review. Weekly introductions have not started. This agreement is written in plain language and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer; the operator's legal name, address and the governing law will be completed, and the wording may change, before anyone is asked to accept it. If it changes in a way that matters, you will be asked to agree again.
This agreement is in addition to the Terms of Service and the Privacy Notice. It covers one thing: taking part in Vera's weekly introductions. You can read it before you decide, and you can leave at any time.
1. What Vera does
Each week, if you say you are open, Vera builds you a short list of people who fit what you and they said you are looking for. You tell us privately who interests you. When two people each choose the other, Vera introduces you, and each of you can then read the other's Vera website.
Vera does not promise you a match, a date, a relationship or a marriage. Some weeks there may be nobody for you. Vera does not charge for introductions at this stage; if that ever changes, you will be told first and nothing will be charged without your clear agreement.
2. Who may take part
You may take part only if all of these are true, and you confirm them when you agree:
- You are 18 or older, and you are not married or in a committed relationship.
- You are looking for a serious relationship that could lead to marriage, not casual dating, advertising, money or attention.
- What you put on your Vera website and in your preferences is true, including your age and the photographs of you.
You may not take part if you have been removed from Vera, if you are legally barred from contact with another member, or if you are using Vera for someone else.
3. What we use, and what the other person sees
- What we use to build your list: your Vera website (including interests and values you chose to write), your private preferences (the year you were born, the age range you would like to meet, your area, and whether you want only people nearby), and your answers to past lists. A computer program ranks and selects people from this. It does not read your private letters or your private blog drafts.
- Who sees what: the people on your list see your public Vera website, your first name or nickname, an age, your occupation and area, if you filled them in. They are never shown your birth year, your age preferences, or whether you answered yes or no. Nobody is told that you said no.
- When you are introduced: only when two people each choose the other. Then each sees the other's Vera website and can write.
- Who can see it inside Vera: a small number of Vera staff, only as needed to run the service, deal with reports and keep members safe.
- How long: we keep your preferences and answers while you take part. If you withdraw, we delete your agreement and your open place; if you delete your account, we delete your preferences, lists and answers. Introductions you were part of are removed from the other person's view when either account is deleted, subject to the retention in the Privacy Notice.
These choices are yours. You are never required to take part in a week, and you can say "Not for me" to anyone.
4. How members treat each other
When you are introduced, please treat the other person with the respect you would want. In particular:
- Do not harass, pressure, threaten, insult or discriminate against anyone, and do not ask for money, financial information or intimate images.
- Reply to a first message with a polite answer, even if the answer is "no, thank you". Disappearing without a word is not what Vera is built for.
- If you are introduced and no longer wish to continue, say so kindly. You may close an introduction at any time.
- Do not create more than one account, impersonate anyone, or use a photograph that is not you.
If these rules are broken, Vera may remind you, reduce the number of people on your lists, pause your place in the weekly introductions, or, after a person has looked at what happened, remove you from the service. You may ask for a decision to be reviewed. The standards page, Our standards for respectful dating, explains how this is designed to work; some parts are still being built, and nothing on that page is a promise that a particular tool exists today.
5. Safety
Vera does not run criminal background checks and cannot confirm that everything a person says is true. Meet in a public place, tell a friend where you are going, and do not send money. If something feels wrong, report it from the mailbox or write to us; reports of danger are handled first.
6. Your choices
- Not this week: you can turn off your place until the week closes, whenever you like.
- Withdraw: from the introductions page you can withdraw from weekly introductions altogether. That removes your agreement and your open place. Introductions already made stay, because the other person may be relying on them; you can close them.
- Delete your data: you can delete your account, which removes your preferences, lists and answers.
- Changes: if this agreement changes, you will be asked to agree to the new version before the next week you take part in.
7. Matching is automated, with people behind it
Your list is chosen by a computer program using the rules above. It uses only the information described above. A person reviews reports, removals and appeals. If you think the program treated you unfairly, tell us and a person will look.
8. What happens if something goes wrong
Vera is provided as it is during early access. To the extent the law allows, Vera is not responsible for what members say or do, or for a meeting that goes badly. Nothing here limits any right you have that the law does not allow to be limited. [Operator's legal name, address, limits of liability, governing law and how disputes are handled will be completed with legal advice.]
9. Questions
Use the Contact page. The operator's legal contact details will be added when this agreement is finalized.
